Cafe du Soliel... locals only

So this French-esque small scale coffee shop is a great meeting place for a big cup of coffee and a chat in the city. It feels like a little slice of France in the middle of SF, I have been so many times, and it never fails to make me happy. With a little outdoor seating area, it's a great place to grab a cup of coffee (served in a bowl, oh so French), and an amazing almond croissant and soak up the sunshine. This cafe was a part of the La Boulange family here in SF that recently got purchased by Starbucks. Cafe du Soliel's owner decided instead of giving in to being taken over by a big chain, that he would purchase this little spot and make it his own. They serve Equator coffee instead of Starbucks, and they actually make their pastries instead of getting them shipped from a Starbucks baking facility. This story makes me love this place that much more! The food is always good, go on the weekends to get the tortilla espagnole salad (add bacon or smoked salmon), the open face sandwiches are just the right amount of food, and there are so many pastries to choose from it's hard to pick one, you'll have to make repeat visits to try them all. It's a great spot to relax with a glass of wine, and step out of the day to day. Next time you are in the lower Haight, be sure to stop in for something delicious.
