Brunch Drunk Love... Pop Up???

So I decided to find new spot for brunch here in this fine city... something that serves later than 2:30 as on my days off i tend to sleep in past 12noon. So I went online searching Saturday brunch for some suggestions and lo and behold, a place that severed until 4pm. Heck yes! Located in the Mission at the nightclub called BRUNO'S, is a new sort of pop up (?) brunch restaurant called Brunch Drunk Love (a dumb name i have to admit). The chef, Ryan Scott, who i know from his Myth Cafe days, and who since being on Top Chef has become a huge big deal celebrity chef, has bitten off a little more than he can chew. the location leaves a bit to the imagination as it IS in a nightclub that still runs it's normal hours on the weekends, and the zebra print carpet on the floor looks filthy in the light of day (and it kinda smells like old booze), but i will take what i can get.

So we arrive for brunch around... 3pm in the hopes of getting a table being in and out before we had to be at work at 5pm. So we arrive, and it seems as though the front of the house has not quite gotten their act together. there's no hostess to seat you just frantic servers running around with just enough time to run you to your seats. we finally get seated at the "communal" bar area in the middle as we didn't have a reservation, and we sat there looking at the menu, deciding on what we wanted, everything to be honest looks and sounds really good so we are super excited. our order sorted out and ready, we sat for about 15 minutes before anyone even offered us water. it was a bit bazar, we had gotten seated by a woman, so someone knew we were there to eat, but we waited way too long to be greeted. finally i flagged down the same woman who had seated us and told her were were ready to order. at that point it took her another 5-8 minutes to tell someone else that we were ready to order because he came over to take our order not her. Now being in the restaurant business maybe i am a bit bias when o go to eat out, but really 15 minutes and no one even acknowledges you?

so we finally ordered, and the food came out and it was really tasty. i had the BDLT (A glorified BLT) the bacon was super delicious it was rosemary maple bacon a perfect blend of sweet and savory. it also came with a fried egg, amazing, but a bit messy i probably went through 4 napkins for 1 sandwich. My Husband got the Little Piggy sandwich which was just ridiculous... a friend pork cutlet (almost an inch thick), pulled pork, a few slices of black forest ham, and chorizo aioli, and as a bonus they felt the need to top all that piggy-ness with a fried egg! what?!!??! it was delicious and should be consumed with caution.

All in all the food was great, we were happy with all that we ordered (we didn't try any cocktails so i can't comment on those but they looked amazing), but the front of the house was a bit out of whack. it felt like a pop-up like no one had ever worked there before, and they didn't know it was going to be busy and were quite ill prepared. i mean a 10-4pm brunch serving shift would suck i admit, but you took your job knowing that those were the hours were working so get your act together... i might give this place another shot, the food was good enough, but i hope when i go back that the staff is a little more pulled together.
